Preparing for Life at The Capstone

Incoming Freshman,

Hello, it’s me again! I hope everyone is enjoying their summer! In just a few short weeks, you will be an official student at the University of Alabama. At this point, many of you have already gone to Bama Bound and gotten a good taste of life at the Capstone. I hope it was an amazing experience full of new knowledge and new relationships. While at Bama Bound, there are several things we hoped you accomplished. First and foremost, you should have signed up for Fall 2017 courses using the Alabama course catalog. You also should have received additional help from Academic Advisors. Choosing classes may have seemed a bit stressful in the beginning, but it becomes easier each year. It is also important to remember that in case you change your mind or make a mistake, classes can be added and dropped until August 30th without receiving a “W”.

Are you Bama Bound??

I’d like to start by saying congratulations on committing and Roll Tide! As your senior year of high school comes to a close, I wish you the best finishing the year strong. Perhaps you may have already graduated- in which case, congratulations again! The end of high school can be difficult for many students. After all, graduating signifies the end of a chapter in your life. One of my favorite sayings is this: don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened. It is important to reflect fondly on happy memories, but it is even more important to remember that the best is still to come! Some of you (like myself) may already be ready to start classes in the fall, while others may still be a little hesitant about the transition- and that’s understandable! As an out-of-state student from Illinois, I was freaking out about moving across the country away from my family. However, looking back on my freshman year, there’s not a thing I would change. Well, that’s not entirely true- but that’s a story for another time.
